I have spent many years playing fingerstyle guitar and I love it. But? I have always had problems with my nails. Keeping the nails shaped is a job on its own but if you have weak nails you have no chance, espcialy if you play on steel strings the way I do. The answer to all my problems was 400 yards down the High Street in Billingshurst where I live. I was walking down the High Street and I saw the sign "The Nail Academy" I went in and told Clare, the girl who is the expert on nails, that I was a guitarist and I wanted my nails done to help me play guitar without them breaking all the time. I also told her that on my thumb I wanted to extend the nail as if it were a plectrum growing out of my thumbnail. All of this she did without any trouble at all. It was all done with ACRYLIC powder mixed with ACRYLIC Liquid. It is then painted on the nail, with a small painting brush, in layers until the right thickness and length of nail is obtained. When the building of the nail is completed all that is needed is to file and polish the nail to whatever shape you want and bingo a new set of very strong nails. As you will see on the video I only use my nails, even to play fast runs its all I need.

Look how the acrylic nail sticks out like a thumpick. For runs I use the thumb alternating with the 1st and 2nd finger.
